Last Season: Boys golf (8-0) took home the league title, along with a tie for 10th place at the CIF-SS Division 1 team championships at El Dorado Park Golf Course. As a result, the team qualified to play in the United States Golf Association Qualifier.
By finishing in fourth place, they were able to advance to the Southern California State Qualifier, yet fell short of the top three spots to play at the CIF State Tournament with another fourth place finish.
“It was a blow when we missed going to state by two strokes,” Enrico said. “I know the boys will never forget that feeling and will try their best to get another chance to make it to state this year.”
Outlook: The head coach said he hopes to continue the streak and secure the Crestview League championship this season.
“That is and always will be goal number one,” Enrico said. “We have the [talent] to get us there.”
However, he said he hopes to win a CIF-SS championship and the state title as well.
Enrico said his new motto for the season is the ‘three Be’s’: be prepared, be focused and be confident.
Park said he feels this quote motivates him every day.
“That motto helps me, especially the prepared part, because if you’re not really prepared, you don’t deserve to win,” Park said.
Jikal said he thinks that the biggest challenge the team will have to overcome will be competing without the seniors from last season. However, he said he looks forward to competing alongside the underclassmen.
“We got some good freshmen who came this year, as well as me and others improving from last season,” Jikal said.
Enrico said he expects the biggest challenge his team will overcome is themselves.
“There are some really good teams in the CIF Southern Section, and we are one of them,” the head coach said. “The boys need to believe in that.”
He said he hopes that the team is able to be confident in their abilities.
“We just need to find a way for all of us to fire great scores at the most important times,” Enrico said. “They are all capable of posting low scores.”
Park said the team practices Monday to Friday to overcome these doubts.
“Just let the results come and not be too rushed,” he said. “If you work hard, it’ll eventually just happen.”
The first league game will be away against Yorba Linda High School (3-5) on Tuesday, March 24, at the Green River Golf Club at 2:30 p.m.
