Coaches: Joe Ok (head coach), Greg Del Crognale (assistant coach), Don Shaw (assistant coach)

Top Returning Players: Wilson Cal (12), Peter Park (12), Emmanuel Seddoh (12)

Top Newcomers: Caleb Harnett (11), Johann Kwon (9), Dylan Lawson (10) and Zachery Tan (10).

Outlook: Last season, the boys basketball team made it to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3A playoffs before falling to Palm Springs 47-44, according to maxpreps.com. The boys work to improve in hopes of advancing deeper into CIF playoffs this season.

“We have a good mix of returning players as well as new guys with a lot of promise and potential,” Ok said. “We will have our share of ups and downs this year, but we are excited and ready for this season to begin.”

The top competitors for the Freeway League title are Sonora High School and La Habra High School, who won the Freeway League title last year, Ok said.

“They’re both really challenging teams to play, but I think we’re totally up for the challenge,” point guard senior Steven Yoo said. “It’s definitely going to be a game of patience and discipline to beat them more so than just simply working hard or trying to outdo them.”

In addition, Ok is excited for the new group young newcomers to the varsity team.

“These guys will get significant playing time this season and will contribute to our team,” Ok said.

The team practiced throughout the summer to achieve their main goals of finishing top three in Freeway league and making the CIF playoffs.

“The process of our team improving will be ongoing this entire season,” Ok said. “We will have our ups and downs this year, but we hope to be in a good place at the end of the year.”

The Lancers won their first game against Kennedy High School on Nov. 18 with a score of 58-48 at the Sunny Hills gym.
