Last Season: The Lady Lancers won their third league championship in a row after a smooth season of consecutive wins with no unexpected challenges.
Outlook: Following their strong performance last season, head coach Enrico said the team’s most important goal is to win a league championship. He hopes to qualify as many of the athletes as possible for the CIF-SS individual tournament, and hopefully qualify for the CIF-SS team championships.
Going into the new season and potential fourth championship win in a row, the head coach said he has high hopes for the team, but that the athletes will have to work hard.
“I expect our girls to put in the work and win matches,” Enrico said. “If they do that, we’ll have success, but they have to put in the time.”
After losing some top players like Oliviah Chavez and Angelina Jeong to graduation last year, Enrico said they have to rely on the new freshmen to make an impact on the team.
“I’m looking for our freshman girls to learn fast, be fearless, and step up to the pressure of the varsity level,” he said. “Half of our starters are going to be freshmen, and they have no choice but to perform; they have the talent, that’s for sure.”
Ready to endure the pressure of joining the team as a freshman, Siregar said she is excited for this new experience.
“There are a lot of really good players on the team, so I know they’ll carry me far into the season,” she said. “I look forward to getting better at playing at different courses and improving a lot as an individual.”
Enrico said the Lady Lancers have their sights focused solely on maintaining a high rank all season, and beating every team regardless of any rival history with the schools.
“Every team in our league is good,” he said. “I refuse to focus on just one team, we need to beat all the teams.”
As a second-year on the team, Nana Kim said she looks forward to building an even stronger team chemistry this season.
“All of us in the team have a strong desire to get better at golf, and I feel like in that way, we click with each other,” Kim said. “I hope to get closer with each other and cheer each other on to hopefully see a good outcome.”
Regarding team chemistry, Enrico said he expects everyone to be supportive of each other.
“Half of our team are seasoned veterans, half of our team are brand new,” the coach said. “I expect our veterans to support and teach the younger girls; we have to come together and play well.”
The Lady Lancers will have their first league game against Cerritos High School on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 2:30 p.m., at the La Mirada Golf Course.
