Last Season: The boys wrestling team ended with a 2-3 Freeway League record.
Outlook: The Lancers and the Troy Warriors are the only two squads that remain from the now-disbanded Freeway League. In this season’s North Hills division, the two Fullerton Joint Union High School District schools will face off against new teams from Foothill High School in Santa Ana and Pacifica High School in Garden Grove.
“Last season, we had many determined players, which contributed to the overall success of the team,” Mora said. “I want the boys to do keep on pushing themselves to hopefully perform even better this year.”
Captain Kim said he wanted to lead his teammates in this goal.
“As a senior, I want to set an example for the team, pushing them to reach their full potential,” he said. “We’ve got to stay focused and never settle for anything less than our best.”
One key area to work on is the wrestlers’ conditioning, which will be essential for enhancing their endurance and overall performance, Kim said.
The performance of the freshmen joining the squad has also exceeded expectations, he said.
Freshman Galvan said he is excited for what the season will bring for the team.
“I’m new, but so far, the experience has been a lot of fun, and I think it will be very rewarding as we take on new opponents throughout the season,” he said.
The Lancers won their first league duel with a score of 38-37 at an away match with Foothill High School [FHS] on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Their next league duel will be a home game against the Troy Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
