Last Season: The boys basketball team ended in fourth place in the Freeway League with a 16-13 overall record. Nevertheless, the Lancers qualified for a spot in the CIF Division 3AA playoff, losing in the first round to South Pasadena.
Outlook: Because the CIF-Southern Section has undergone a revamp of its conferences and leagues, the boys find themselves in the North League. Gone are opponents from the Fullerton Joint Union High School District. Instead, the Lancers will face off against such high schools as Pacifica in Garden Grove, Esperanza in Anaheim, El Modena in Orange and Brea Olinda in Brea.
“We feel confident that we can compete with the other teams in our [new] league, and hopefully, we can compete for the championship,” Ok said.
While the team lost many of its senior starters from the previous season, the boys head basketball coach said he hopes this year’s squad will get together heading into league play.
“It’s going to be a different-looking team, but we have a good mixture of some older and some younger players,” he said.
Shooting guard Bai said he welcomes the challenge this season holds.
“I like our group this year, and we’re capable of winning a lot of games,” Bai said.
The team still needs to work on some aspects of the game to capture the first North League title.
“We just need to improve our consistency and aggressiveness in order to fulfill our goals for the season,” Bobadilla said.
After playing in three tournaments and eight non-league games, the Lancers head into league play Friday, Jan. 3, with a 13-7 overall record. The Lancers will go up against El Modena (6-11) at home at 7 p.m. even though students remain off campus because of winter break.
