About the Contributors
Seowon Han, Web Editor-in-Chief
For her third and final year on staff, senior Seowon Han returns excitedly to oversee The Accolade's website as the web editor-in-chief. Serving as a Spotlight editor and business manager her junior year, Han experienced writing for every section and covered a range of topics while bringing an engaging voice. This year, she looks forward to enhancing the Accolade website through its new Korean-language section titled "한국어" to spotlight more perspectives on Korean culture and experiences and include a large population on the Sunny Hills campus in the publication. On top of this, the web editor-in-chief aims to provide frequent updates with various content, include more interactive multimedia elements and continue taking photos to showcase on the website.
Outside of The Accolade, Han enjoys staying involved around the campus through several clubs as a president and cabinet member. In her spare time, she takes pleasure in listening to music and playing her instrument.
Noah Lee, Photo Editor
Looking forward to his final year photographing for The Accolade, senior Noah Lee hopes to uphold a great experience for readers through quality images, telling the story of campus events with action and emotion.
When Lee is not taking photos, he likes to spend his time reading and watching all sorts of media.
Katie Leem, Photographer
As her first year in The Accolade, junior Katie Leem is eager to serve as one of The Accolade's 2024-2025 photographers. Leem is excited to meet new people and capture moments of life on campus.
Outside of The Accolade, Leem takes part in various clubs and community service. She also enjoys taking naps and listening to music.
Tommy Li, Adviser
First hired as The Accolade adviser in the 2001-2002 school year, Tommy Li oversaw the print newspaper production until the 2008-2009 school year, when he took a break for family reasons. During that time, Li guided his staff to win first place in local and state journalism write-off contests as well as the Best High School Newspaper contest sponsored by the Los Angeles Times. He also advised his staffs to earn national recognition with a Silver Crown from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and a Pacemaker from the National Scholastic Press Association.
Li returned as journalism teacher and adviser in the 2016-2017 school year. Since then, The Accolade has won three Best High School Newspaper awards from the Los Angeles Press Club's Southern California Journalism Awards contest (that contest was not around when Li was the adviser the first time around). Li has guided the program back to national prominence, guiding The Accolade to receive a second Pacemaker and four more Silver Crowns. Before becoming a teacher, Li earned his bachelor's degree in print journalism and English from the University of Southern California; upon graduation, he worked as a reporter for San Bernardino County's The Sun newspaper for nearly five years and a freelance contract writer for the Los Angeles Times for another four years. Li's favorite quote comes from Helen Keller: "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much."
Rachel Yoon, Photographer
Sophomore Rachel Yoon is excited for her first year on The Accolade team. Yoon loves to take pictures, and she hopes that her photos will elevate the award-winning paper.
Besides photography, Yoon enjoys quality time with her family and friends. She also loves going to church and volunteering in her community.
