The first stag dance of the school year will feature a Wild West theme Saturday, Aug. 26, in the Sunny Hills quad.
“Ultimately, we decided on Wild West because we loved cowboy hats and the western party vibes,” said junior Tiffany Kim, one of the Associated Student Body [ASB] members in charge of planning the 7:30-10:30 p.m. event.
Typically, stag is held at the end of the school week, but ASB officials said it conflicted with Friday’s home football game against Katella High School at Buena Park High School stadium.
“Usually, the beginning of the year stag would be the second Friday after school starts. … Although it is unusual, we didn’t want to push it back any farther because we wanted stag to be earlier and more of a welcome back to school,” Kim said.
Unlike other high school dances like homecoming and prom, stag does not suggest formal attire; instead, the ASB encourages attendees to wear clothing based on the event’s theme.
Saturday’s social also provides students with an opportunity to meet new people and have fun.
“We’re really hoping that a bunch of people will show up and enjoy themselves for the night,” ASB adviser David Fenstermaker said.
Students can purchase stag tickets in advance through the SH webstore or at the door Saturday night for $12 with an ASB Gold Card and for $15 without.
Fenstermaker said each SH student may bring one guest, but that visitor will need to fill out a form found on the SH website. The form must receive an administration signature before the purchase of a ticket; this process will not be allowed at the door, though.
