Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the Conservatory of Fine Arts [COFA] plans to host its annual Fall Festival after school Oct. 24 with a theme based on the Peanuts cartoon episode titled, “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!”

“This year, COFA is going more full out with everything,” COFA president and senior Alia Scroggins said. “With our awesome publicity team hand-making the posters, all of the COFA council members are really working hard.”

Attendees for the 3-4:30 p.m. event in the quad.can expect to enjoy free food and drinks like hot dogs and mini acai bowls. Participants can also have the option to purchase boba for $3 and 50 cents to $1 for other baked goods.

“We’re giving out free food because it’s not all about the money we make,” junior and COFA director Vivian Tran said. “We want people to be able to have a good time.”

Besides the food, the festival will also feature games like a doughnut-eating contest, candy jar guessing game and a mini pumpkin decorating booth.

“I’m excited about the pumpkin decorating because it fits with the theme, and it’s so cute,” Tran said.

Directors decided to go with a Peanuts-themed festival because it is fitting for the fall season, Tran said. Posters promoting the event featured Charlie Brown’s friend, Linus, his sister Sally and pet dog Snoopy among a pumpkin patch at night — reminiscent of a scene from the “Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!” cartoon episode originally broadcast on TV in 1966.

However, the main attractions are the performances by COFA programs like choir, Dance Production, theater, orchestra and drumline, Tran said.

“We just want everyone to know what COFA is,” she said. “Everyone can come out and watch all of the COFA pathways perform what they’re best [at] and passionate about.”

Spending over $300 for the event, COFA directors have worked hard to create an exciting harvest festival that will outperform previous years, COFA adviser Brian Wall said.

Fall Festival director junior Kathryn Aurelio also contributed to the event’s planning.

“I am especially excited for all the decorations,” Aurelio said. “In the past it wasn’t as nicely decorated, but this time we have a bunch of great posters, hay barrels from the Agriculture Department and a promo video displaying a montage of past COFA events.”

COFA directors as well as Wall encouraged students to attend, learn more about COFA and have a fun time with their friends.

“I can’t think of a better way to spend your Thursday afternoon than with us and watching the amazing artists that we have at Sunny Hills with lots of free food,” he said.
