Today’s boys and girls cross country Freeway League Finals race has been delayed until Friday, Nov. 1, because of poor air quality and windy weather conditions creating an unsafe environment at Ralph B. Clark Park in Fullerton.

Head coaches representing the six schools in the league told the student athletes of the cancellation, citing unhealthy air from recent fires in Los Angeles and Orange counties and the threat of a tall tree falling down at the park because of gusty winds.

Sunny Hills athletes arrived at the park at 11:45 a.m. to stretch but at 12:30 p.m. the race was called off, and the runners were transported by bus back to school, cross country runners said.

“I’m pretty upset about this because I already missed some school today,” said senior Elise Angeles, one of the runners on the girls cross country squad. “I wish we had been notified beforehand.”
